Protecting Your Reputation Online 1...

In an age where many people are happy to share all aspects of their daily life with more than just their immediate friends we face new issues in safe guarding our reputation. Whether a business protecting a brand, or an individual looking after our own name, we need to be aware of what our online persona says about us. In this post I take a look at how a person’s Facebook persona could lead to a negative impression. Earlier in the week I started to prepare a presentation I had been asked to deliver to a group of new graduates entering the Unlocking Cornish Potential (UCP)...

Facebook Pet Hates...

Earlier today I must admit I lost my cool for a few moments and published three status updates over the course of a minute outlining my three top ‘Facebook Pet Hates’. This quick run of updates followed a conversation with someone in Starbucks who told me that one company, responsible for many abuses on behalf of themselves and their clients, was now offering help and support to their clients in this area. Copied in below is the three updates posted over Facebook for anyone not already connected to me on the platform to read. If you or your company have been advised...

Powerful Extensions: Google Chrome...

Google Chrome is Google’s first foray into the web browser market, in this post Tonick’s Jesse Cochran takes a look at the introduction of ‘Extensions’ to the Google Chrome browser, the potential impact this may have on it’s main competitor, Mozilla Firefox, and identifies the must have ‘Extensions’ currently available. Mozilla’s Firefox browser is the most popular browser used for surfing the web today.  However, in late 2008 Google entered the market for the first time with the release of it’s own product, Google Chrome. I recently presented a 15 minute slot on social media for business at a marketing seminar held at the Carnmarth Hotel, Newquay. Good afternoon, I am the last of today’s line up and I will be looking at social media, a subject which I imagine you are hearing increasingly more about. I hope as I move through my presentation it becomes clear exactly what the term means and why it is becoming important to many of your businesses. To introduce myself,...

Some ‘Pointless Babble’ abou...

I was amused to read on the BBC yesterday that a staggering percentage of messages (40%) sent over the micro-blogging service, Twitter were actually nothing more than ‘pointless babble’ according to newly published research from US based, Pear Analytics. A devoted Twitter user myself, I couldn’t let the story pass without adding my own comment and before I could make a cup of coffee was embroiled in an ongoing debate as to the worth, especially to businesses, of social networks and platforms such as Twitter.

Social Media Courses – What would ...

I regularly present to businesses and other organisations on the value of social media and the changes taking place in the way we communicate and do business. Understanding that there is a real need for training in this area my attentions have turned to establishing the areas avid social media see as most important and what they feel should be included in presentations or training courses on the subject. Using LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter I posted the question below and received some great responses from the social media community. Do you agree or disagree with the comments...

Social media marketing and ROI. The deba...

Last week I read an interesting post from journalist and online commentator, Helen Leggatt, entitled ‘Is social media failing as a marketing medium?’. The report, which draws on a press release from Knowledge Networks, continues the ongoing debate about social media and concerns from many in business that it’s still failing to deliver a real return on investment (ROI). The original press release and Helen’s report at first seems to have some pretty compelling evidence; under 5% of social media users refer to social media in making purchasing decisions across...
